I’ve always known that that players listen to custom gaming music playlists, but I’ve always played games the way the developers intended – music and all – call me a digital purist. However, since League of Legends lacks a variety of music for the amount of time I’ve spent playing it of late, I’ve started down a dangerous path tuning into Pandora and my own mix tape, of sorts.
It began by creating a new station on Pandora. Seeded with StarCraft, Warcraft, Halo, Mass Effect, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, and other notable scores, I feel I have a nice mix of video game’s best elevator music. As I grew to itch for something with more of a beat, Pandora has been turned off and a custom playlist now spans heart-pumping dubstep, rhythmic and techno music from the likes of Krewella, Prodigy, Daft Punk, etc.
While music has not had a positive or negative effect on the outcome of my matches, I do appear to have a more relaxed and carefree attitude while playing – and isn’t that what playing games is all about? Here’s one of my favorite replays – and some choice tunes to go with it.
I will continue to encourage players to play games the way it they were intended to be played by their developers first, but I now understand why so many players ditch the immersion and opt for their preferred jams.
But now I’m curious.
What’s on Your Gaming Music Playlist?
Do you have any must-have video game scores I need to add to my Pandora station? List those and any heart-pumping tune recommendations in the comments below and I’ll report back if/when there might be any noteworthy suggestions or observations on the matter.
As always, good luck and have fun!
